1954 L'il Abner Comic Strip: "A Daid Wife Hain't Much of a Wife"

A few weeks ago, I found an old Washington Post newspaper from June 10, 1954 at an estate sale, and I finally found time to sit down and read it today.

The front-page headlines that day were: McCARTHY GOES ON STAND and SUSPECT IN MURDER PLOT FOUND DEAD.  But I was more interested in perusing the "For and About Women" section of the paper - and the Comic Strips.

Orphan Annie, Blondie, The Phantom, The Lone Ranger, Gasoline Alley, Bringing Up Father, Moon Mullins, Hopalong Cassidy, Brenda Starr, Dick Tracy.....all the classic comics were there!  You can find examples of these online, but it's lots more fun to read them straight from the original vintage newspaper.

Here's my favorite - Al Capp's Li'l Abner

Poor Daisy Mae doesn't pick her friends very well. That "Critter" is one mean broad (to put it politely)!
